The Eagle Barge is a floating pub & restaurant. The refitted Dutch barge is moored at South Laggan Locks, at the "top" of Loch Lochy, just off the A82 between Spean Bridge and Fort Augustus. These with a liking for woodwork (and real ale) will be in their element! The tow path is part of the Great Glen Way so this is a welcome watering hole to sailors navigating the Caledonian Canal, walkers, bikers and "water-folk" alike. Due to the nature of the barge, no disabled access to the bar itself, but there are tables and chairs on the staging next to the barge, and tables "up top" for those OK with the steep gang plank. Hot and cold Seafood feature strongly, but if you want to eat, make sure you book on the day before 15:00 (or well in advance!) to avoid disappointment because everything is freshly cooked to order. However, reports of:- "I am sure we can sort something out" are referred to us regularly, so there is always a warm welcome for the hungry traveller. Closest train station is Spean Bridge, bus stop on main road. Accommodation may be available on their other yacht, which is moored next to the barge. Please be advised the Barge opens on a seasonal basis from mid/late March (depending on Easter) and closes mid October. Other than Monday and Tuesday, it may also closed on additional days during the year (some dates August 2017) If making a specific trip to visit, please confirm dates on the website, or by phoning the (mobile) number.
