Good News - The Culbokie Inn reopened on 19/12/14! The new owners Anne and Duncan McCalum are "finding their feet" and after refurbishing the lounge restaurant and kitchens opened for food at the end of April 2015. This is very much a family run pub with the owners' daughters helping to run the place, and with them running a farm you can be assured of where the beef and lamb will have come from! Cromarty Happy Chappy is available on keg. It was understood that the single hand pump would take over, but is currently gathering dust, with no plans to press it into action "because there is no demand". Although not necessarily a "traditional" pub game, pétanque is played in an area adjacent to the pub - just ask for the steel balls and jack. The beer garden and pétanque area command fantastic views of the Cromarty Firth. The pub was built in 1790, and interestingly was under state control from 1914 until 1971. Culbokie or Cuil-bhòcaidh in Gaelic meaning ‘the haunted nook’. Please note, food times known to be correct, opening times based on 11pm closing when open for food - 16/8/15.
