Following a difficult trading period, Edge o' the World closed its doors at 23:00 on 24 August 2018. Indications are that the transfer of licence was "complicated", but it is hoped that this will be overcome soon. However, no re-opening date has been set. The listing below remains in the hope that it will soon re-open. Opened on 1st March 2017, the “Edge O' the World” bar and shop is the “brewery tap” for Hebridean brewery and brings new and much needed addition to the real ale scene in Stornoway. Do not be put off by the unprepossessing entrance which leads to a long narrow public bar, extending into a rear seated area which looks into the brewery. The walls are interestingly bedecked with a variety of memorabilia. Of particular interest is a variety of Great War cap badges, from the proprietor (Andy Ribben) own personal collection. There are currently four (unfined) real ales from the brewery on handpump, with plans to have an additional three guest beers. With an additional nine fonts and two real ciders, perry and a selection of wine is also available (but no spirits) there has to be something to suit everyone’s taste! Other than the bar itself, the shop also sells Hebridean’s own cask and craft ales There are plans to introduce a food service in the future. however there is a children’s license in place already. In line with many Western Isles establishments, closed on Sunday. There is a quiz night on Wednesday and occasional folk music sessions on Thursday. You can join the "Friends of Hebridean Brewing Club" for £24 per year (or for visitors, £2 per month) which entitles members to "up to" 30% off Hebridean beers or 20% off other products.
